On August 12, 2010 there was a ‘reunion’ of some of the folks that have been involved in the efforts to make the Silver Spring Civic Building and Veterans Plaza happen. The stormy weather kept many away; but some did venture in and joined us. Amazing. Simply amazing.
The stories of the trials and tribulations, the false starts, the meetings every Wednesday nights … And through it all folks stuck it out; were there when needed; and made consensus decisions to get us to where we are today… Wow… What a commitment!
It is evidently clear that those efforts a decade ago made an imprint in the political and social fabric of this community, not just on the physical development. Many of those involved then are our leaders now. Some opted for political leadership; others for civic leadership… And many others quietly work in their neighborhoods, putting in their 2-cents worth when it matters…
To all of you who had anything to do with making this place come to fruition, we say “THANK YOU”… And we invite you to come join those of us who have come into this picture more recently – come and help us paint this canvas; as the saying goes “We ain't done yet!”
We invite you to continue sharing your stories.
“If we don’t know where we come from, we don’t know where we are going; and, if we don't know where we are going, any road will take us there.”…
WE NEED IDEAS ON HOW TO KEEP YOUR STORIES ALIVE… HERE ARE SOME POSSIBILITIES WE'VE HEARD:
- COURTYARD CONVERSATIONS?
- BLOGS?
- IS THERE A PLAY IN THE MAKING?
- GOOD OLD FASHION STORY-TELLING SESSIONS?
- HAS THE DEFINITIVE ARTICLE BEEN WRITTEN?
- COULD WE CAPTURE VIGNETTES OF STORIES IN A FLIP CAMERA?
ANYONE OUT THERE WILLING TO TAKE A LEADERSHIP ROLE ON THIS or VOLUNTEER ON THIS EFFORT?
Please share your ideas with us… Chime in with your comments!
And, don’t forget to become a ‘follower’ of this blog so you get future postings.
