Mirenka Cechová and Tantehorse
Dante: Light in a Darkness
Acclaimed actress Mirenka Cechová, and her company Tantehorse from the Czech Republic will mount Light in a Darkness, a piece that combines surreal and decadent poetry with elements of physical theater and modern dance. Tantehorse Company initially focused on the strong Czech tradition of modern pantomime, however the ensemble soon abandoned the world of fragile silence and went their own way through slapstick, comedy and black humor, with works tending towards surrealism and decadence.

National Center for Children and Families - biggest event of the year
Silver Spring Civic Building

Art & Soul brings together 500 supporters, philanthropists, and art enthusiasts who support our mission. The evening showcases some of the region's best professional artists, who donate a portion of the proceeds from their sales to NCCF and the 4,000 children, youth, and families we serve each year. Guests can bid on fine art and unique items featured in our signature "Gifts from the Soul" silent auction, and enjoy a sampling of hors d'oeuvres from acclaimed local restaurants. It's an exciting evening of great food, great music, and a great cause. (You may remember last year's auction: It was the same night that nine tornadoes touched down in Maryland. But the show went on!) Keep checking our events page for updates and ticket information.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Carpe Diem Arts and French Immersion Camp, suitable for beginners and intermediate students, is designed to embrace the diversity and the richness not only of France but also of the whole Francophonie (French speaking countries). We will explore five or more French-speaking countries around the world, and will learn about each country's geography and people, traditions of song and dance, cuisine and culture. The program will also include field trips to the Embassy of Sénégal in DC, the National Gallery of Art with a French-speaking docent, the Alliance Française, and La Madeleine/Pain Quotidian where the campers will order their meal in French. The primary goal of the Carpe Diem French Immersion camp experience will be to celebrate the French language and the joy of learning.
