...................................
It is difficult to believe we are already more than a month into this year! Like most organizations, institutions, and businesses, the Silver Spring Regional Center is busy laying out the year. In doing so it has become readily apparent that we are one busy community! There’s so much going on!
And, of course, we want to be cognizant of dates for major events outside Silver Spring that – whether we want them to or not – certainly impact anything we do in the world of ‘community engagement’. (For example, stay away from setting up a major meeting for April 2nd – that is the evening for the NCAA Basketball Championship.) There are also all the major faith holidays that should be respected. (For a calendar of these, check out the interfaith calendar at: http://www.interfaithcalendar.org/2012.htm ) Lastly, this year’s political calendar is also critical. (I am sure we’ll reschedule our Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment Committee in November, scheduled to meet on the first Tuesday of the month… I believe there’s a certain event happening that day that we do not want to conflict with!)
Now, having said all of that, here’s a “starting list” of a few major happenings in the Silver Spring Regional Area that you may want to be aware of as you plan your year. Much more info on these (and many ohters!) will become available as we get closer to the dates... But, we thought that for now having this handy-dandy list of 'save-the-dates' would help.(Please either e-mail and/or leave a blog posting of others you might know about. We will include them in future postings and help disseminate the information.)

These are great, and as a nearly 20 year resident of Silver Spring, I look forward to many of them. But one thing is still missing - years after we were told it would come back - and that is First Night Montgomery, the wonderful New Year's Eve celebration that moved during the downtown construction and has never come back. Now that the major construction is done, it would be an ideal time to bring back this event. Is anyone working on this? Thanks.
David, please e-mail me at Reemberto.Rodriguez@MontgomeryCountyMD.Gov
